Once again a variety of autonomous robots made their way to the
Challenger Space Center for a day of robotic competition.
In addition to the Mini-Sumo and Maze events, we introduced a Line-Follower
competition which featured a dual track head-to-head race.
A total of 16 robots entered the event, some based on kits,
some scratch built, and several were Lego Mindstorm creations.
Maze Event
The maze event featured 6 robots in 3 different levels of competition. A total of 3 robots entered the Novice class. Scoring was very close, with all robots solving at least one of the 3 maze configurations, with Lord Speedy winning the event. The Advanced level only had 1 entry Research which was able to maneuver through some of the maze, but unable to solve it. The Expert class also had only one entrant Master Mazer II, which was able to find the tennis ball in all 3 configurations, but unable to complete the return part of the event.
Mini-Sumo
This event continues to be a crowd favorite, with 2 robots going head to head to push each other out of the ring. We had 8 robots entered in this event, with the Lego-based Lord Speedy taking the title from 2-time champ Mini-Spat.
Line Follower
This is our new event with two robots racing around identical tracks, head-to-head. We had 4 entries compete, with Lego-based Line Master lapping everyone for the win.
Other Robots
In addition to the Autonomous robots we also had the City Of Glendale’s Police robot on hand for demonstrations and the FIRST robots from Hamilton High School showed us their driving skills as they duplicated this years “Stack Attack” competition.
Have a look around at the pictures and results of the competition.
